Israel Fashion Week opened Sunday night at the residence of the Italian ambassador with a cocktail reception honoring Italian designer Roberto Cavalli.

The week's activities will begin Monday morning at Tel Aviv's Hatahana old railway station, and will feature a display of fashion designer Yaniv Persy. Thereafter, events will continue for three days, and feature 18 fashion exhibitions.

During the fashion week, summer 2012 collections put together by Israeli designers such as Sasson Kedem, Mira Zwillinger, Dorin Frankfurt, Galit Levy, Gideon Oberson, Shai Shalom, and Alon Livne will be on display, along with fashion works rendered by students from the Shenkar fashion school.

Also during fashion week, Roberto Cavalli will display his summer 2012 collection, and there will be a competition between young fashion designers.

Fashion Week will close with a fund-raising event for IGY, the Israel Gay Youth Organization. Some 40 Israeli celebrities will model clothes designed by local designers at this event. Notable participants will include Tal Berman, Dana International, Dana Spector, Michal Amdurski and Dalia Mazor.

Visiting notables who will arrive during the week include Milan fashion celebrity Mario Boselli, Paula Reed, editor of the British Grazia fashion magazine, Lisa Armstrong, fashion journalist from the British Daily Telegraph, and also journalists and fashion figures from Russia, Japan and the United States. Franca Sozzani, editor of the Italian Vogue magazine, and a premier figure in the fashion world, was scheduled to pay a visit to Israel's Fashion Week, but canceled her trip due to urgent work pressures.

Israel Fashion Week is supported in part by the Ministry of Tourism, the Foreign Ministry and businessman and fashion entrepreneur Ofir Lev.
